The Bystander Effect has long been used to explain the general lack of public help towards people who have been harmed, or are at risk of harm.
This film looks at more recent research that takes us beyond the Bystander Effect and explains the lack of help for James Bulger, a two-year-old who was abducted and murdered by two 10-year-old boys.
It goes on to show how the psychology of bystander behaviour can help all of us to become more proactive witnesses.
